Charge Point Usage and Vehicle Registration Figures

Dec

Under the ecarni scheme, 14 rapid charge points and 320 fast charge points have been installed throughout Northern Ireland. Statistics on the usage of the ecarni charging network are given below. We intend to publish these figures quarterly and welcome any feedback you may have.

The graph below shows the increasing usage of the fast and rapid charge points. The phased installation began in early 2012 and was completed in the summer of 2013. Figures are available up to the end of Sept 2014.

Historically, the overall number of charging events at public charge points is as follows:-

-         Year 1 - 1st April 2012 – 31st March 2013- 400 Charging Events

-         Year 2 - 1st April 2013 – 31st March 2014 - 3567 Charging Events

-         Year 3 - 1st April 2014 – 30th September 2014 – 6174 Charging Events

This has been a period of steadily increasing growth in usage due to the completion of the installation of the electric charging network infrastructure, the increasing variety of electric vehicles available and the numbers of EV owners registering with ecarni to use the Northern Ireland network.

The introduction of the 14 rapid chargers to the network has been very popular with EV owners who wish to avail of this facility on longer journeys. These 14 charging stations account for 46.64% of the total number of public network charging sessions to date.

The list below outlines the 20 most frequently used charging points across the network in order of charge point number.

EV drivers continue to avail of the charging network when out and about but with the majority of charges still taking place at home or at work as illustrated below.

The kW usage also reflects the preference for home charging as illustrated below.

Whilst the public charging infrastructure is being utilised with increasing popularity, there are charge points within the network which are used less frequently.

The table below outlines the 20 least frequently used charge points. We would encourage EV owners to use these charge points for topping up whilst out and about.

In addition to increasing charge point usage, the number of electric vehicles registered with ecar continues to rise. At the outset of the project in April 2012 there were 5 EV's, on the 24 October 2014 there were approx 350.
